Company and Position Summary:

The company operates a highly automated manufacturing environment with a great deal of proprietary technology.  Health and Safety programs are in place with no major issues left behind by the previous Safety Manager.  This is an international manufacturing company with locations all over North American and Europe.  The plant is less than 5 years old and is considered the flagship plant for the US!


About the Job:


  • The Health and Safety Manager will lead and facilitate the development and implementation of cost-effective programs and procedures that continuously increase overall awareness in safety and health to eliminate undesired incidents at the site. 
  • Partners with local management team to assure local compliance with all applicable plant, company, and governmental policies, procedures, regulations, and legislation. 
  • The Health and Safety Manager will also be the Fire Officer on site and will be responsible for training the internal Fire Brigade and collaborating with the local Fire Department. 
  • Leads and facilitates the development and implementation of:

    • Training and other programs and activities necessary to ensure facility Safety and Health compliance.
    • Facility Safety and Health improvement plans to enhance compliance and improve Safety and Health performance and monitor and report progress toward achieving site goals and objectives using established Safety and Health metrics.

  • The Health and Safety Manager is responsible for physical security of the plant which includes the manning of the guard houses at the plant entrances.
  • Will collaborate with Health and Safety Managers at other plant locations to develop best practices.
  • Monitors proposed and existing Safety and Health regulations and legislation to determine their impact on operations.
  • Develops and implements programs to ensure continued compliance.
  • Establishes site Safety and Health goals and objectives consistent with global and regional goals.
  • Manages system for identifying, investigating, recording, and reporting undesired Safety and Health events.
  • Ensures corrective actions are taken to fulfill regulatory compliance.
  • Provides regular communication to all levels of management regarding Safety and Health issues and performance to ensure that relevant issues are quickly and appropriately addressed.
  • Supervises, develops and evaluates employees in the Safety and Health area. 
  • Planning, organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to negotiate with external stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; conversational and written fluency in English; strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively with others.
  • Bachelor/University degree in Industrial Safety engineering or related fields
  • Minimum of 5+ years of related experience, including prior leadership/ supervisory experience.


 Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of safety management experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience in an automated manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles
  • Strong background using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Leadership skills and sound employee relations background.
